Miller’s Field Happy Hour was the perfect event to kick off a great weekend. We had an awesome turnout with plenty of familiar faces as well as some fresh, new ones. Welcome to San Diego, Nicole Fischer and Steven Graham! The sweet smell of barbecue chicken pizza was mesmerizing, but there was plenty to go around. While munching and sipping, we loved hearing about the latest in everybody’s lives; Gina and her crazy 200 mile relay (we’re dying to know how it went) and Gary with happy newlywed talk. Ad 2 San Diego always attracts a fun crowd, and it was nice to get to know people who share a passion for success in the industry. A solid amount of the group continued out into the night to keep celebrating – another successful happy hour event with Ad 2 San Diego!

When did you come to the United States?

What was the driving force of coming to America?

Getting my masters degree, living in a different country and meeting new people! Also, experiencing a different culture and California sunsets…

What made you join Ad 2 San Diego?

After graduation, I was trying to choose the best organization for young marketing professionals and I’ve heard from a couple of people about Ad 2 SD. They had a members only event 4 months ago and I decided to be a member that day just to check out their event!

What has been your favorite experience as an integral part of Ad 2 San Diego?

Meeting smart people who understand marketing and advertising. Oh and the fun events!

This weather has been pretty gloomy, but we’re looking forward to the heat! What’s your plan for when the sun comes out?

Dreaming of Maui nowadays and can’t wait do the crazy ride to Hana one more time – taking very long breaks at the waterfalls and rain forests on the way.

Can you offer advice to others planning to succeed in this industry?

Never stop learning. Keep up with the trends. Try to learn at least one thing each day about your speciality. Read an article, watch a video or attend a webinar.

Every Ad 2 San Diego member has a different and exciting story just like Nihan. Keep up with the club and learn about young, successful individuals!

Where is your hometown?

San Diego

What brought you back to San Diego?

I had the opportunity to join the MeringCarson team in Encinitas, I suppose you could say Happiness was Calling from San Diego.

What is your expertise in this industry?

Helping to manage successful campaigns and quality relationships with our clients. Plus, I’ve got to keep the Draper name alive and well!

What made you join Ad 2 San Diego?

I think it is a great organization to be able to connect with other people in the industry who are creative and forward thinking.

What what are you looking forward to as a member of Ad 2 San Diego?

I am looking forward to helping plan some great events this year. I think that the San Diego advertising community is definitely up and coming, so it will be great to help cultivate that spirit.

Well being a redhead, I will require a significant amount of SPF, but I am looking forward to when Del Mar Racing season starts up!

Stay true to yourself, choose optimism and enjoy the ride.

2012 SAFE Annual Party Event Recap

SAFE – the San Diego Advertising Fund for Emergencies is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial aid in life crisis situations to members of the San Diego County advertising and marketing community and their families.

The SAFE Annual Party was my first big event with Ad 2 San Diego and Andaz Hotel was probably one of the best spots in town for the event. The ambiance and décor of the Andaz Hotel is modern, trendy and minimalistic. The music was amazing and the food and drinks were delicious. From the waiters to the San Diego Ad Club Committee, everyone was very kind and welcoming.

We had silent auctions and raffles for cool prizes. A few of the prizes included a Fender electric guitar signed by Selena Gomez, Squire by Fender electric guitar signed by Paulina Rubio, First Act acoustic guitar signed by Gretchen Wilson, iPad2, Chargers Helmet autographed by Eric Weddle, tickets to the Padres vs. Astros game and tickets to Sea World. I was personally in charge of selling the raffle tickets. I explained to guests what the prizes were and asked them if they wanted to participate. Thankfully, everyone wanted to be a part of the SAFE fundraising efforts so my job wasn’t that difficult. Needless to say, the iPad2 was the most popular raffle prize and a lot of people asked me to help them win unfortunately there was nothing I more I can do – only Lady Luck could help them.

The highlight of the night was when I met people from the San Diego Ad Club and students from SDSU Ad Club. I am really glad I joined Ad 2 San Diego because of the great people I met in a short amount of time, the fun events and the networking opportunities it provides. I hope events in the future will be just as fun as the SAFE Party and look forward to getting more involved with Ad 2 San Diego.

All proceeds benefited SAFE grant recipients so it was an evening out that had a good cause. If you would like to learn more about SAFE, check out their website and follow their activities at their SAFE Facebook page.

Where is your hometown?

I am a born and raised San Diego-ite? San Diego-in? San Diego-on?… I mean I’m a homegrown San Diegan. I’m one of the lucky ones who has been spoiled by this amazing weather and city my whole life.

What kept you in San Diego?

Since I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life, I decided to stay here through college because my family is here, and why not soak up all that San Diego has to offer me? I think still have a few more adventures to tackle before I move out of this awesome city.

What made you join Ad 2 San Diego?

I first learned about Ad 2 San Diego in a San Diego State University Advertising Club meeting. I was amazed to learn that there was this bustling community of creativity and talent that I had never heard about right in my own backyard! I knew that I wanted to join and participate in the events, meet other members, and learn more about what exactly happens in the San Diego advertising community. Plus it just looked like a lot of fun.

What has been your favorite part as an Ad 2 San Diego Member?

My favorite part of being an Ad 2 San Diego member is definitely meeting people and learning about what they do. Since I hope to one day be in their footsteps; I love to meet other members and hear who they work with and the incredible ideas they come up with. I feel so inspired being around the other members, I always find myself extra motivated after events. It’s also an added bonus that being a youngster in the club, I am able to have the opportunity to get real insight into the advertising and marketing industry that I would have never learned in school.

You are graduating soon! Congratulations! What are your plans for after Graduation?

Yes! I am graduating this May and I could not be more excited. I have literally been counting down the days since January (I have 43 days left!). After Graduation I hope to begin working in San Diego for a marketing or advertising agency. I have begun my job search and am on a mission to find the best job out there. I have been interning at a few agencies for the past 2 years and absolutely love agency life. All the different clients, deadlines, creativity, and madness – I work best under pressure so it is truly an environment I would thrive in. I can’t wait to get started with my life post-college, and begin my career. If anyone is hiring or has any information I would be forever grateful. What advice can you leave for young members who aspire to thrive in this industry?

As a young member myself I still am aspiring to thrive in the industry. I would tell other young members to talk and meet with everyone they can. I would also tell them to definitely get involved as much as possible, life is too short to wait around for the right time. Seize any and every opportunity that comes along!
