Elections for the 2010 – 2011 Ad 2 year will be held on Tuesday, June 1, from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm at San Diego Ad Club Office. Below is the proposed slate. If you are interested in running for a position, you can write yourself in at Tuesday’s election. You will have to declare your intent for the position, and have the attendees vote you in.

Ad 2 is joining Ad Club SD and the San Diego Advertising Fund for Emergencies on March 25^th from 6-11pm at the SAFE Annual Benefit Party & Auction.  Mingle with hundreds of people and enjoy a fun evening with drink specials and a silent auction.  This event supports SAFE in raising money for individuals and their families in crisis situations, who are part of the San Diego County advertising and marketing community.

Meet Marco Barron… SDSU Ad Club President, Ad 2 Communications Board Member, Nor Cal native, and future Advertising Exec.

After joining Ad 2 this past summer, Marco quickly got involved in the Communications committee and he has become a staple at Ad 2 events since.  Marco says, “The best thing about Ad 2 is the networking, people, and food at meetings” =)

Don’t be afraid to buy him a drink at your next event, because before you know it he could be working in the office next to you!

Public Service continues their work with the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). The non-profit is in the midst of rebranding and Ad 2 is working closely to coordinate their new look with a consistent and comprehensive interactive strategy.

At the heart of the campaign is incorporating existing social networks into a redesigned CAF website to better connect donors, athletes, and grant recipients around the group’s events.

CAF is currently looking for a marketing/community manager intern to help with the transition. For more information on the internship or Ad 2′s campaign, please contact Tobin Nageotte or Anthony Miller.

It was the night of a typhoon at Typhoon Saloon in Pacific Beach but we still had a great showing of current and new members come out. About 35 people joined us on the stormy night representing almost every agency in SD as well as some welcomed new comers from Maine and Minnesota.

Ad2 Happy Hours are meant to bring young professionals in the advertising community together to share ideas, discuss jobs, and have fun.

North and South met, and good times were had by all. Special
thanks to everyone who attended last months North County happy
hour in Encinitas. We had a great turn out of about 30 people at
Beachside Bar & Grill.

We met some new agency folks like Zeta
Interactive, we had the new USD group show and overall made some

Come join us on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Tilted Kilt as we listen to the first World Champion of Surfing, Peter “PT” Townend, speak about his long career in the action sports industry. Happy Hour will be extended for the event until 8pm including some light appetizers.

About the Speaker: Peter “PT” Townend

The first World Champion of Professional Surfing (1976) has held numerous industry positions in a 25- plus year career in action sports, including a 10- year term as advertising director/associate publisher of Surfing, Bodyboarding and Volleyball Magazines; eight years as the marketing director of Rusty; and more recently this decade as publisher of Primedia’s Surfing Group and marketing and events director for the Primedia Action Sports Group (ASG) division.

Townend also served as president of SIMA (’88-’89) and president of Surfing America (’97-04)which he founded.  He served as head coach of the USA Surf Team in 1982-1984, when he led the team to a gold medal win in ’84, and most recently from 2004-2007 when he brought the USA Surf Team back to international credibility with a return to the dais in three of five international ISA World Championship appearences.

Townend currently serves on the USA SkateBoarding board of directors, the umbrella organization that is endeavoring to bring skateboarding into the Olympics, and will field the USA National SkateBoarding Team.  Townend also serves on SIMA’s seniour advisory board and the CONNECT S.I. advisory board.
