Ad 2 San Diego is full of intriguing and inspired individuals. Get to know your fellow Ad 2 San Diego Members! This months featured member is Denise Pena.

Where is your hometown?

I am a born and raised San Diego-ite? San Diego-in? San Diego-on?… I mean I’m a homegrown San Diegan. I’m one of the lucky ones who has been spoiled by this amazing weather and city my whole life.

What kept you in San Diego?

Since I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life, I decided to stay here through college because my family is here, and why not soak up all that San Diego has to offer me? I think still have a few more adventures to tackle before I move out of this awesome city.

What made you join Ad 2 San Diego?

I first learned about Ad 2 San Diego in a San Diego State University Advertising Club meeting. I was amazed to learn that there was this bustling community of creativity and talent that I had never heard about right in my own backyard! I knew that I wanted to join and participate in the events, meet other members, and learn more about what exactly happens in the San Diego advertising community. Plus it just looked like a lot of fun.

What has been your favorite part as an Ad 2 San Diego Member?

My favorite part of being an Ad 2 San Diego member is definitely meeting people and learning about what they do. Since I hope to one day be in their footsteps; I love to meet other members and hear who they work with and the incredible ideas they come up with. I feel so inspired being around the other members, I always find myself extra motivated after events. It’s also an added bonus that being a youngster in the club, I am able to have the opportunity to get real insight into the advertising and marketing industry that I would have never learned in school.

You are graduating soon! Congratulations! What are your plans for after Graduation?

Yes! I am graduating this May and I could not be more excited. I have literally been counting down the days since January (I have 43 days left!).  After Graduation I hope to begin working in San Diego for a marketing or advertising agency. I have begun my job search and am on a mission to find the best job out there. I have been interning at a few agencies for the past 2 years and absolutely love agency life. All the different clients, deadlines, creativity, and madness – I work best under pressure so it is truly an environment I would thrive in. I can’t wait to get started with my life post-college, and begin my career. If anyone is hiring or has any information I would be forever grateful. What advice can you leave for young members who aspire to thrive in this industry?

As a young member myself I still am aspiring to thrive in the industry. I would tell other young members to talk and meet with everyone they can. I would also tell them to definitely get involved as much as possible, life is too short to wait around for the right time. Seize any and every opportunity that comes along!
