2009 Public Service Kickoff
The 2009 – 2010 AAF calendar year has officially started. Looking back at last year, we had a very successful year. Our membership grew 50%, which now puts us as the 3rd largest Ad 2 chapter in the country. Club profits increased an estimated 20% and we won 3rd place for Communications in the AAF Club Achievement Competition.
This year will be the 4th year of my Ad 2 San Diego membership my final term as club President. I’ve seen the club evolve from having 10 person events to selling out every event for the past 1.5 years. We’re not joking when we say to sign up early!
My goals for this year are to take the club one step further in the direction of becoming an organization of remarkable young professionals. How are we going to make Ad 2 San Diego a more meaningful organization? The answer lies in 3 initiatives:
- Public Service
- Student Outreach
- Giving back to our members
Public Service
I bet you didn’t know that our TV spot from last year was featured during Conan, did you? We’re building on last year’s lessons and have assembled a first class Public Service Committee. Tobin Nageotte, a Producer/Director for Sony, as well as a founder for ThirtySevenClick is Chairing the campaign. We have Kiley Peters, from SDSU Extended Studies as well as Anthony Miller from X1FM.com as other leaders for the Committee.
The application process just opened. We will have an event in August where the 3 finalists will present for the campaign. We did this back in 2006 and it was a very inspirational night.
Student Outreach
There’s no reason that Marketing, Advertising, Graphic Design or any type of Communication Majors shouldn’t be a member of Ad 2 San Diego. If you are a member of your schools Ad Club (note: only the Art Institute and San Diego State have AAF Affiliated Programs) the membership cost is only $25. For every other school, it’s $50. If you want to get a leg up on the competition, start networking early. We will be making a “road trip” to the local universities this year to spread the word about Ad 2 San Diego.
Giving Back to our Members
We are currently working on a program to give academic scholarships to Ad 2 members. These will be good at either SDSU Extended Studies or for UCSD Extension courses. The details for the program will be announced shortly.
Ad 2 San Diego is also hosting the 2009 AAF Ad 2 National Mid Year Retreat. If you are on the board, you will be able to attend this weekend of training and leadership development.
I’m excited to work with this year’s board. Keep in mind that we’re always recruiting committee members and have a couple of board spots open.
